Puerto Jiménez is the largest town on the Osa Peninsula and the southern gateway to Corcovado National Park. Unlike Drake Bay, which is essentially a remote eco-tourist paradise, Puerto Jimenez is an honest-to-goodness Tico town, full of dirt roads and dilapidated buildings. Although a bit rough around the edges, the town is not entirely without charm. It commands dramatic views of the beautiful Golfo Dulce, lies next to a beautiful mangrove estuary, and its trees are filled with scarlet macaws. As a general rule, Puerto Jimenez attracts more backpackers and budget travelers than Drake Bay. It’s easier to get here on the cheap, and it’s easier to visit Corcovado National Park on the cheap.
