Located just outside the Rocky Mountain National Park‘s western entrance, Grand Lake is the largest and deepest natural lake in Colorado. Situated 8,400 feet above sea level, it reflects the park’s majestic peaks, and the adjacent town (population 500) revolves around national park tourism and lakeside fun. Two larger man-made reservoirs, Shadow Mountain Lake and Lake Granby, lie just south of Grand Lake. If you’re looking for beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery with a fraction of the crowds on the park’s east side, it’s hard to beat Grand Lake.
