Camping near Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree Lake RV and Campground

Located in the town of Joshua Tree, this private campground is one of the best options for camping near Joshua Tree National Park. It offers sites for RVs (full hook-ups available) and tents. The campground is located next to a small lake with fishing.

Twentynine Palms RV Resort

Joshua Tree Retreat Center

Primitive camping (no drinking water, no campfires, no BBQs) on the grounds of the Joshua Tree Retreat Center. Showers and swimming pool available.

Private, 78-space campground with restroom and showers on site, 55 are full hook up with 30 amp electric service, water, and sewer. 23 are partial hook up with 30 amp electrical service and water.

Overflow BLM Camping

Overflow camping is available on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) property just outside Joshua Tree National Park. Keep in mind that BLM campsites have no water, no toilet facilities, and all trash must be packed out. BLM camping is not permitted within 300 feet of the roadway.

BLM Camping North of Highway 62

From the town of Joshua Tree head east on Highway 62 for two miles. Turn left (north) on Sunfair Road and travel for two miles to Broadway. Turn right (east) on Broadway. The pavement will end about 100 yards after this turn. Travel one mile to a line of telephone poles running perpendicular (north and south). This one lane, unmarked dirt road is Cascade. Turn left (north) and travel 0.5 miles until a single lane, unmarked dirt road is passed. This road is Sunflower. Camping is allowed for the next 0.5 miles on the east side of Cascade. Fires are not permitted and all vegetation, living and dead is protected.

BLM Camping South of Cottonwood Spring

This offers the best camping near Joshua Tree if you’d like to be close to Cottonwood Campground. Drive six miles south of Cottonwood Visitor Center, past the park boundary sign. Just beyond the aqueduct, turn right or left on the Water District Road. Camping is allowed west of the Cottonwood Road, south of the Water District Road, and north of Interstate 10. Camping is also allowed east of the Cottonwood Road and adjacent to the south side of the Water District Road. Camping is also allowed south of Interstate 10, on both the east and west sides of Box Canyon Road. Small fires in contained fire rings are allowed. Bring your own firewood.
