Hurricane has several modern chain hotels that offer a very good value compared to the hotels near Zion National Park. Hurricane is located roughly 22 miles (30-minute drive) from Zion’s South Entrance.
Hurricane (pronounced HUR-uh-kin by locals) is the largest town (population 17,000) near Zion’s South Entrance. First settled in 1896, it was named by a horse-drawn buggy driver, who, after experiencing a powerful gust of wind, exclaimed “Well, that was a hurricane. We’ll name this Hurricane Hill.”
Today Hurricane’s main street is lined with a combination of mom-and-pop shops and big-box retailers.
