Howler Monkey Mother & Baby, Tortuguero, Costa Rica
A howler monkey mother and baby rest in a mango tree in Tortuguero, on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Howler monkeys are famous for their guttural roar, which can be heard for several miles through dense jungle. Spending up to 80% of their time resting, howlers are considered the least active of all monkeys. Mantled howler monkeys (Alouatta palliata) are called «congos» in Costa Rica.
